Call and Response

The Call

The call begins as a quiet whisper from a cold, dark place of isolation where it feels nearly impossible to be seen. The voice is trapped, devoid of hope for escape, and filled with profound psychological and emotional pain.

The call felt like an invitation, hinting that true understanding can only be found by descending to the depths—where "truth lies at the bottom of a well."

It appeared just as Jean-Léon Gérôme painted it: a woman holding a mirror, symbolizing the feminine dimension of self-reflection. Yet, in this vision, Truth was found at the bottom of the Well of Sorrow — and she was a native woman.

Truth is at the Bottom of the Well (1895) by Jean-Léon Gérôme, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.

Descending into the well in search of truth required resilience, determination, and deep self-reflection. I transformed the bottom of the well into a foundation from which to begin my ascent toward the light.

I gazed deeply within myself before emerging once more, feeling both renewed and transformed. I answered the call through my work, Sacred Blood. Some may suggest I wasted my life, squandering it on delusion and fantasy. Who can say?
